NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on July 1, 2026 in the Village Office, the Village of Cedar Rapids will hold a public hearing concerning an application to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This grant is available to local governments for community/ economic development activities.
The Village of Cedar Rapids is requesting $630,000 of CDBG Public Works Infrastructure (PWI) funds for the Cedar Rapids Street Improvement Project to improve West Dayton Street from Railroad Avenue east to 2nd Street and 2nd Street from Dayton Street to Highway 56. The project includes the mill and overlay of 2″ of asphalt, with patching of the subgrade as needed. It will also include the replacement of items that will be damaged or disturbed during construction, including curb & gutters, driveways, sidewalks, signs, mailboxes, and water valves; $25,000 will be used for general administration; $5,000 will be used for construction management. The project was selected for improvement due to its poor physical condition of Dayton Street and 2nd Street and ongoing citizen complaints. Local match in the amount of $60,000 will be provided by the Village of Cedar Rapids from their Street Fund. The total project cost for the Cedar Rapids Street Improvement Project is approximately $660,000. All CDBG funds will benefit 51.3% of low-to-moderate (LMI) people; no persons are anticipated to be displaced because of CDBG activities; however, the Village will follow its plan for assisting persons actually displaced.
The grant application will be available for public inspection at the Cedar Rapids Village Hall, 425 W. Main Street, Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. All interested parties are invited to attend this public hearing at which time you will have an opportunity to be heard regarding the grant application. Written and oral testimony will also be accepted at the public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 1, 2026, at the Village Hall, 425 W. Main Street, Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.
